updates weeks 10 - 14

Weeks 10 & 11 (11/26 through 12/7)

Things have been a little slow moving the last couple of weeks, but a few things got accomplished. We upgraded our old 50 gallon electric hot water heater to a 75 gallon propane water heater. We also had some other minor plumbing upgraded at the same time. The cement board was laid on the bathroom floor in preparation for tile. One of the bedroom doors was hung. And we waited for the plaster to dry! We ordered the hardwood flooring and settled on a granite countertop provider for the vanity.

Week 12 (12/10 through 12/14)

This week, most of the lighting was installed, the other bedroom door was hung, and the electric warming mat and the floor tile were installed. Also, a footing was poured in the basement, a post needs to be added to support the beam in the center of the house. The wall where the vanity will go needed to be adjusted, the finished dimension was too small, so they started rebuilding the corner of the wall.

Week 13 (12/18 through 12/22)

The vanity wall readjustment was finished, and the vanity was installed. The granite countertop installer came by to measure and template the top... we're now waiting for the top to be fabricated and installed so that the final plumbing can be done. The thermostat for the floor warming mat was hooked up and now the floor is operational. The guys also worked on the post in the center of the house; a section of wall on the first floor needed to be removed in order to add support. They hung the door for the linen closet and did some miscellaneous patching work. On Friday I had the day off work, so I began applying primer in the bedroom. I got the bedroom primed and the ceiling in the bedroom painted.

Week 14 (12/25 through 12/31)

Monday was Christmas, and Jen and I were in Wisconsin for a couple of days. While we were gone, the final electrical inspection passed, and the guys also built an access panel for the closet. Jen and I returned home on Thursday night, and we spent Friday, Saturday, and Sunday painting. We primed the three closets, finished priming the bathroom, and got two coats of paint in the bedroom and bathroom! We're pleased with the results. On Friday the maple for the trim was delivered -- there's a lot of it. (See photo below of hardwood flooring and maple trim.) My father has promised to come out, probably towards the end of January, to help install the flooring and the trim. In the meantime, we'll work on prefinishing the trim.
